Why Zonal Heat Actually Works
Standard ovens just heat the air. It’s slow, clunky, and honestly, a bit of a guessing game. We do things differently. We use short-wave infrared lamps that hit the resin directly. The secret is breaking the heating area into independent zones. Think about it: your part isn’t a flat sheet. You’ve got thick chunks of material in some spots and thin edges in others. With zonal control, you can blast the thick areas with more energy and dial it back on the edges. No more “hot spots.” No more warping. When the heat is balanced, the resin cures uniformly, and the part stays exactly the way you designed it.
The Gear You’ll Need
To make this work, you want high-density quartz lamps. They ramp up fast, which keeps your cycle times lean. You can plug these right into a PLC with PID loops to keep your temperatures locked in. But here is a heads-up: these high-wattage arrays put off a ton of heat. If you cheap out on your cooling fans or don’t calculate your BTUs correctly, your electronics are going to overheat and trip. It’s a quick fix, but a headache you don’t want.
