Getting Carbon Fiber IR Lamps into Your Hardware
If you’re used to standard halogen tubes, carbon fiber lamps feel a bit different. Instead of a traditional wire, we use a carbon fiber filament tucked inside quartz. We build these specifically for folks who need their gear to heat up fast and hit organic materials with just the right kind of energy. Let’s talk power. We usually start with how much wattage you need per millimeter. If we bump up the voltage, we can cram more power into a smaller space. That’s great news for you because it means your heating oven can be smaller. Just a heads-up: if you’re running a high-wattage tube, make sure your power supply is up to the task. If they aren’t matched, you’re looking at a premature burnout. To make your life easier, we can customize the lengths. That way, the lamp just slides right into your existing chassis without you having to mess around with your reflectors. What’s under the hood? The quartz envelope is there to keep the carbon filament from oxidizing. But we don’t just stop there. We apply specific coatings to push the heat into the medium-wave range. Why? Because that’s what actually sinks deep into plastics and coatings rather than just hitting the surface. For the wiring, we stick with the classics—R7s or Sk15 connectors. They’re fast to plug in, but more importantly, they breathe. They handle the natural expansion and contraction of the heat cycles way better than a soldered joint, so you don’t have to worry about the lamp shaking loose. The trade-offs. Here is the honest part. Carbon fiber gives you a “softer” heat than short-wave halogen. It’s much more uniform, which means you aren’t risking those nasty surface scorches on your product. But there’s a catch: quartz is fragile. These tubes can’t take a beating. If they get knocked around or handled roughly during install, they’ll crack. When you’re setting them up, make sure your mounting clips aren’t too tight. You need to give the tube some room to grow as it heats up, or you’ll end up with stress fractures.
