Unlike those old-school resistive elements that take forever to warm up, these things hit their stride almost instantly. Let’s talk power and voltage. The math is pretty simple: how long the tube is, how much voltage you push through it, and the wattage all determine how much heat you actually get. For the longer tubes, we usually go with higher voltages (think 230V to 400V). Why? Because it keeps the temperature steady from one end of the bulb to the other. But be careful. If you cram a high-wattage bulb into a tiny space, the heat density spikes fast. They give the bulb room to breathe and expand as it heats up. One last thing—don’t ignore your wiring. High-output tubes pull a lot of current. Check your wire gauge to make sure it can handle the amperage.
