We built these carbon infrared lamps for engineers who need pure, raw heat—without taking up a ton of room. They’re the kind of solution you reach for when you’re tired of bulky convection heaters and just need something that responds instantly, heats exactly where you want it, and keeps things clean.
Power, Voltage, and Size: Getting the Details Right
At the heart of it, a carbon infrared lamp is all about direct radiation. It turns electricity straight into infrared heat, so you never waste time heating air first. The wattage, voltage, and heat output all play off each other, and we lean into that balance. Take our 2500W lamp running on 400V. We chose that to pack in serious heat density while keeping the current draw lower. That means less energy lost in the wiring and smaller control gear to deal with. The 300mm length? That’s intentional too. It gives you enough surface to create a wide, even hot zone, but stays short enough to slip into tight spots—like inside plastics forming machines, sealing bars, or small oven tunnels. But here’s the catch—all that heat in a small space means things get hot, fast. You have to plan for it. The fixture and airflow need to be set up right, or you’ll end up cooking the reflector and socket.
What’s Inside: Built to Handle the Heat
Inside the quartz tube, the carbon filament runs hot enough to throw out shortwave infrared. We add a halogen gas fill to keep the filament stable and stretch out its life, so it doesn’t burn out prematurely. And the quartz itself? It’s tough enough to handle rapid power cycling without cracking. The reflective coating on the tube is all about directing the heat where you need it. It pushes infrared forward, so you waste less heat out the back and keep the socket protected. And for hooking it up, we use the R7s base. It’s a standard double-ended setup that’s easy to wire, holds the tube steady even with vibration, and makes replacement quick—no need to tear apart the whole fixture.
Real-World Performance: Heat That Works Like You Need It To
This setup shines in industrial jobs that demand fast, focused heating. In plastics work—think PET blowing or thermoforming—the lamp hits the material surface directly. Cycle times drop, and the results stay consistent. With 400V and 2500W, you get rapid ramp-up, and the shortwave output dives right into the surface for even heating. The 300mm length and R7s base also make it a simple swap-in for many existing machines. Just remember—you’re getting a lot of power in a small package.
